From the field to the academic sphere how teachers professional identities and roles have changed in post-war Finland This study explores teacher autobiographies. The span of the writings extends mainly from the Second World War to the new millennium. The autobiographers are mostly elementary and secondary school teachers in Finland, although there are a few who have worked in vocational schools, polytechnic institutes or one of the various adult education centres. Kirja Huhut, unet, sodomiitit, moraalinvartijat, elämäkerrat,puhuttelusanat ja ammattinimikkeet koostuu teoreettisista artikkeleista ja tutkielmista, joiden käsittelemät aikakaudet ulottuvat keskiajalta aina itsenäisyyden murrosvaiheisiin. Teemaa lähestytään yksilön ja yhteiskunnan välisten suhteiden ilmentymänä. Artlkkelit edustavat kunkin kirjoittajan tutkimussuuntausta. Näin ollen kyseessä on teos, jossa esitetään myös uusimman historiantutkimuksen tuloksia. Kirjoittajat ovat historiantutkijoita ja Jyväskylän maakunta-arkiston henkilökuntaa.

My doctoral dissertation examines women’s memory narratives of paid labour during the Winter War (1939–1940) and the Continuation War (1941–1945, including the Lapland War) and in the years of rebuilding in Finland until early 1950s. As an ethnologist, I am interested in the personal level of everyday life and experiences of work. My main interest lies in the meanings women give to paid labour. The focus is on memory narratives, and I am reaching and I aim to bring to light the meanings given to work: what did paid labour mean for women during the war and the time of rebuilding and how do they tell about it decades afterwards?
